NDSA introduced its UD390 WD 6x4 tipper truck at the Johannesburg International Motor Show, which is being held at Nasrec, west of Johannesburg.

The launch followed the company’s announcement that it would fit tipper bodies at its Rosslyn plant as part of its assembly process.

NDSA started the fitment of tipper bodies at its Rosslyn plant in September. Local firm Top Trailers and the Japanese ShinMaywa group were supplying the tipper bodies.

The Nissan Diesel UD390 WD vehicle boasts 286-kW of power, a seven-speed transmission, and a 300-l fuel tank. It replaces the previous UD 290 as the vehicle to be marketed to the construction and mining industries.

In contrast to its predecessor, the UD 390 WD features a new GE13 TB engine, offering 73 kW (34%) more power, 520 Nm (43%) more torque, ultrahigh pressure injectors, electronically controlled unit injectors, improved combustion efficiency and optimum performance and fuel usage.

Part of the Quon model range, NDSA said it has balanced the quest for innovation and advancement in extraheavy trucking, with its objective to only introduce appropriate technology in the local market.
